Student Organizations

The Allen School has many Affiliated Student Organizations. Our student organizations are split-up into four categories: community organizations, affinity organizations, career & industry organizations, and technical organizations. Our Allen School Affiliated Student Organizations are a great way for Allen School undergraduate students to find community within the Allen School (and beyond!).

Community Organizations

Community Allen School Student Organizations operate in service of the Allen School undergraduate student community. Their main functions are to engage the student body socially, provide opportunities to develop community, and enhance the general student sense of belonging within the Allen School.

Computing Community (COM²)

Computing Community (COM²) at the University of Washington is a UW RSO dedicated to building community in the CSE department, and we are the largest student-led organization at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. COM² at the Allen School aims to bring the motivation and spirit of this organization to our school campus through career and academic support, mentorship, and community-building initiatives.

Student Advisory Council (SAC) Logo

Student Advisory Council (SAC)

The CSE Student Advisory Council (SAC) is a student organization whose mission is to amplify voices across the Allen School to create long-term change. We are a passionate organization focused on improving the Allen School experience. This includes collecting student feedback, producing reports, hosting events, leading initiatives, and facilitating conversations between faculty and undergraduates. Affinity Student Organizations

Allen School Affinity Organizations operate to provide an intentional community for students from underserved backgrounds. Their main functions are to advocate for affinity-focused needs within the Allen School, build a community for subgroup populations within their affinity focus, and enhance their affinity population’s experience within the Allen School.

Ability

Ability is an Allen School student group that works to provide community for students with disabilities to get support from one another and allies, and to educate our community about disability and the importance of accessibility in our world. We hold events like allyship training, hands-on accessibility workshops, discussions around issues like imposter syndrome, and more!

Minorities in Tech Logo

Minorities in Tech

Minorities in Technology’s (MiT) mission is to act as a forum to build and foster an inclusive, multicultural environment for underrepresented minority (URM) students in CSE. We strive to create a safe and empowering environment where URM can thrive academically, socially, and professionally. Through events and collaborations, we build pathways to opportunities, foster a community where everyone feels like they belong, and ensure that URM are heard and valued.

Q++

Q++ is a student organization that aims to build and support the LGBTQ+ community in the Allen School through community engagement and representation. We promote community building through hosting events and providing safe spaces for students. By supporting those with diverse gender and sexual identities, and their allies, we hope to foster a sense of inclusivity, openness, and acceptance throughout the Allen School. Career & Industry Student Organizations

Career & Industry Allen School Student Organizations exist to connect students to the professional field of computer science and engineering. Their main functions are to prepare students for post-collegiate life, develop career-related programming and support, and work in conjunction with the Allen School Industry Affiliates Program. The career & industry partners these groups are affiliated with are expected to connect with our programming.

ACE Logo

Association for Computing Education (ACE)

The Association for Computing Education (ACE) is an Allen School student group for students who have a passion for Computer Science education. We are the first computing education club at UW, centered around our three pillars: community, pedagogy, and research. Our goal is to strengthen the computing education community at UW, connect students with CS Education research opportunities, and improve how CS is taught in the Allen school through outreach, projects, and events.

Algorithmic Trading Club

The Algorithmic Trading Club at University of Washington (ATC) is a vibrant, interdisciplinary community where students passionate about quantitative finance connect, learn, and grow. Primarily attracting students from Computer Science, ATC also welcomes those from Mathematics, Applied Math, and CFRM, all eager to apply their technical skills to financial markets. Supported by the Allen School of Computer Science, ATC helps students develop skills in problem solving, programming, and financial markets. We are here to bring quant culture to UW! Technical Student Organizations

Technical Allen School Student Organizations function to work on computer science and engineering-focused projects and programs. Their main functions are to host project-based programs directly related to computer science and/or engineering and to connect Allen School students with opportunities to explore technical aspects of experiential learning.

AVELA – A Vision for Engineering Literacy & Access

AVELA – A Vision for Engineering Literacy & Access is a nonprofit increasing STEM access for underrepresented students through hands-on workshops, camps, and outreach. We empower URM K–14 students by providing mentorship, leadership opportunities, and resources often lacking, like coding tools, college prep, and project support. Our members are compensated to create STEM lessons that drive social good and build lasting partnerships with underserved schools, using a multi-tier near-peer mentorship model that reflects the communities we serve.

To create a tech internship-like environment that promotes the growth and development of our club members. We provide team-based programming project experience and encourage peer-to-peer learning to provide the next generation of programmers & designers with the tools and experience to succeed in future tech careers.

I2 (Interactive Intelligence) Logo

I2 (Interactive Intelligence)

I2 is UW’s student led NeuroAI education and research organization. I2 is an environment which aims to create a community of project-driven, outcome-oriented students at the University of Washington interested in the intersections of artificial intelligence, cognitive science, neuroscience, and philosophy. Our goal is to make machines learn like humans. We offer an introductory course to students who want to get into the field, and support for those who wish to contribute to it through research!

Allen School Affiliated Organizations

Computing-related Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and RSOs whose mission is to create a community for Allen School students may apply to become Affiliated with the Allen School. 

Student Organizations who are approved to affiliate with the Allen School have access to:

  • Allen School Funding ($1500 per organization for the 2025-2026 academic year; subject to change depending on the number of affiliated organizations) 
  • Approval to reserve Gates Center Classrooms up to five times per quarter for free 
  • Access to the Student Groups closet with shared resources 
  • Marking on the Allen School Website 
  • Ability to market to the Allen School Community via a weekly newsletter 
  • Invitation to participate in Allen School programming (e.g. Welcome Day, Admitted Student Day) 
  • Leadership Training & Development 

Applying to affiliate as an Allen School Student Organization:

  • We accept applications once per year The application is due on June 1st of each year effective for the following academic year. We do not accept late applications.
  • RSOs will hear back by June 30th if they are an approved Allen School Affiliated Organization for the following academic year or not. 
  • Allen School students will receive an email announcement via the Allen School EdBoard regarding the Allen School Student Organization Application process in the mid-spring quarter. 
  • Organizations must already be an established University of Washington RSO to apply to affiliate.
  • All RSOs must apply to re-affiliate with the Allen School even if they were affiliated previously.
