The Graduate Certificate in Modern AI Methods at the Allen School is a part-time, evening graduate certificate that is designed with the schedule and needs of working professionals and recent graduates in mind.

Intended Audience
The Graduate Certificate in Modern AI Methods is intended for professionals and recent graduates with a background in STEM. There is no specific undergraduate major or work experience required. Those with a degree in computer science will likely find the Professional Master’s Program (PMP) in the Allen School a better fit, as this certificate is designed for students with a minimal background in computer science. Information Sessions
Information sessions will be held online and provide prospective students with an informal opportunity to learn more about the certificate. Contents consist of an overview of the Modern AI Methods graduate certificate and its courses and curriculum as well as an overview of the application process. Attendees may also ask questions directly to the Modern AI Methods program managers.
Costs & Fees
Modern AI Methods is a self-sustaining, fee-based graduate certificate offered by the Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington.
Courses
The graduate certificate can be earned in one year by students by taking a total of 4 courses. Students may take up to two years to finish the certificate. Courses typically meet two weekday evening per week and cover a range of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence topics.
Stackable Certificates
The Graduate Certificate in Modern AI Methods is a Stackable Graduate Certificate, meaning that it can be used towards earning a master’s degree. We are part of the stacked Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Engineering and the Master’s of Engineering in Multidisciplinary Engineering. Other stackable programs are forthcoming but will not be available in Autumn 2025.
