About Me

I am a third year graduate student at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. I am interested in making computers easier to use by combining ideas from Information Extraction, Machine Learning, and Human Computer Interaction. In previous work, I developed a novel search engine for developers. Currently, I am involved in multiple projects with the goal of making Wikipedia smarter.

Before coming to Seattle, I earned a Diplom degree at the University of Passau, Germany. Together with my advisor in Germany, Bernhard Sick, I explored the fields of non-linear discriminant analysis and model selection for Support Vector Machines.

In my free time I love to go hiking, especially in the Northern Cascades, in the Alps, and in Malaysia's rainforest. Every now and then, I also develop cool technical systems outside my academic work. One example is Antolin, the largest web-based learning site for primary schools in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
