The following is an attempt to summarize the most recent athletic
activities of computer science department members. All mailing lists
are majordomo unless otherwise noted. To subscribe, say, to the volleyball mailing
list, send email to majordomo@cs.washington.edu
with the text subscribe volleyball in the body of your email
message. Many of the web pages given are out of date, that does not
mean that the team no longer plays. Please email corrections and
updates to this web page to the grad student coordinator. The original maintainer of this page has graduated - if you'd like the job, please let the GSC know. If you are
interested in playing a sport that has no listed contact,
please volunteer for the position.
Basketball

In the winter quarter we have a men's intramural basketball team. The team
practices in the mornings on weekdays throughout the year. Join the mailing
list for practice announcements.
Bowling

The bowling team plays all year round.
Arguably, they have more fun than any other bowling team out there and
they continue to play regularly in the off-season. All levels of bowlers
are welcome.
Climbing

Washington is chock-full of incredible climbing,
rock, ice, snow, aid, big wall, alpine. You name it it's all here.
Flag Football
The flag football team hasn't been active recently. The season is in the fall.
Hiking

There are great places to hike in the area and many people take
advantage of them.
Hockey

There used to be a group of people that play pickup roller hockey weekly throughout
the year. Games are typically week nights at 9:00 on the E1 parking lot.
[I have no idea if this is still true, and the people I knew who played have graduated. -sarahs]
There is also a UW club team that plays
in a city league.
Innertube Basketball
This is a winter intramural sport that is a lot of fun to play.

There are a number of skiers and snowboarders in the department.
Favorite places to go skiing include The Summit at Snoqualmie, Mt. Baker, Crystal Mountain, and Steven's Pass.
Soccer

We play intramural soccer in the spring and summer. In the past we have had
both coed and mens teams. Many of the soccer players in the department play
city league as well.
Softball

We play intramural ultimate in the spring and summer. The team continues to
practice and scrimage in the off-season. Several grads
play ultimate on other teams. There are lots of good opportunities to
play ultimate in the area.
