Abstract: We present a study for amateur debates online. While most studies on debates focus on more expert, televised events, there is a gap in characterizing debates in lesser skilled debaters. We introduce a new dataset and find that there are significant differences in how expert debaters frame their own and their opponent's main ideas from their less skilled counterparts.
